He also founded Prison Mindfulness Institute and National Prison Hospice Association, catalyzing two national movements, while serving a 14-year mandatory-minimum federal drug sentence, 1985 to 1999. He co-founded the Engaged Mindfulness Institute, training trauma-informed mindfulness teachers to work with individuals and communities impacted by trauma and marginalization, and Center for Mindfulness in Public Safety, training corrections and other public safety professionals in mindfulness-based wellness & resiliency (MBWR) skills. He is a senior Dharma teacher in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and an empowered senior Zen teacher (Roshi) and Dharma successor of Bernie Tetsugen Glassman Roshi, founder of the Zen Peacemakers International. Roshi Fleet has served on the leadership team for the annual Zen Peacemakers Auschwitz Bearing Witness Retreat for more than 20 years and co-founded the Rwanda Bearing Witness retreats.
